When playing Verdant, if I switch to another browser tab during other players' turns, I do not receive a voice notification when it becomes my turn and this happens fairly often. Additionally, the game tab appears to freeze while in the background — showing the "Updating game information..." message when I return. Once I re-focus the tab, the game resumes and fast-forwards through all the moves that happened while I was away.
This delay causes a major issue: I lost and delayed a few games already without realizing it's already my move, since no audio or visual notification is triggered in the background. -

Start a game of Verdant.
Wait for your turn to end and let another player start theirs.
Switch to another browser tab.
Wait until it is your turn again.
Observe that no voice notification or real-time update occurs.
Switch back to the game tab — the game resumes, and you see a backlog of missed moves.
Expected Behavior:
A voice alert or sound notification should play even when the tab is inactive.
Game state should continue updating in real-time in the background, so that the user isn't "frozen out" when returning to the tab.
Actual Behavior:
No voice alert or sound when it's my turn.
Tab seems frozen and only updates after refocusing it.
Can lead to missing a turn or running out of time.
